Todays’ the day that long term care staff need to have their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine in order to go to work.
Those who work in long term care facilities need to provide that they’ve at least had their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. If they don’t provide proof, they must have a medical exemption instead. Government data shows that 98 per cent of long term care employees have at least one dose.
Originally the deadline for both doses was today, November 15th. That got bumped because of new guidance on vaccine dose intervals from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).
The deadline to have both doses is December 13th.
As well, federal employees will need to prove full vaccination today in order to get stay at work.
More than a thousand workers could be put on leave without pay and no employment insurance access if they don’t already have an accommodation in place.
Many public sector unions have said if human rights were not respected that they would be willing to file grievances against employers.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a hard line on imposing vaccination requirements, and that exemptions and accommodations would be difficult to obtain.
