Academic or applied, general or advanced. Those were the options when it came to choosing courses in high school for students. That will all be coming to an end for new grade nine students in September 2022.
It was announced in the summer that the wildly criticized dual education streams would be ending and it wasn’t until yesterday that more information was released.
Starting in the 2022/2023 school year, incoming grade 9 students will only be offered academic level courses for English, geography, French. Science courses will be centered on biology, chemistry, physics and earth and space sciences; however officials say there will also be a focus on developing and refining STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) skills.
