A milestone that many organizations don’t meet, but this one does.
The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) is celebrating it’s 50th year and gathering in Thunder Bay for it’s Annual General Assembly and Leadership Conference.
This weekend is all about being able to “celebrate and honour the safety and healing of Indigenous women and girls as they take up their leadership roles in their family, community and internationally, for generations to come.”
It’s also the She Is Wise Magazine’s 5th edition where they feature leading Indigenous woman, including Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard, President of ONWA, who is stepping down this year to allow current Executive Director, Cora McGuire-Cyrette, to take over.
In a written release Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard says:
“Carrying the legacy of leadership from my mother, Jeannette Corbiere-Lavell, it has been my mission to support and advocate on behalf of Indigenous women’s rights, always working toward the empowerment of Indigenous women and their families. In doing so, I hope that I have honoured her and those who have walked with me and mentored me on this journey.”
The Association has a chapter in Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout.
