Strike action could be coming after more than a year without a contract for Thunder Bay transit workers.
Union President Fred Caputo says that workers have been without a contract for the last 18 months and members have decided to take strike action.
“This is a very difficult and frustrating time for our members,” added Caputo. “They have been selflessly working through this entire pandemic to serve the citizens of Thunder Bay, and deserve a fair and equitable agreement.”
With the last contract having expired in June 2020, the union has been in talks ever since.
“We appreciate the diligence and hard work of the City’s Transit Union Local 966 staff during the COVID-19 pandemic,” added City Manager Norm Gale, in a statement Monday to Acadia News. “Public transit is a vital service. The parties are awaiting the appointment of a conciliator from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.”
They broke off at the end of September with the Union applying for mediation between the two parties.
