Another pandemic long weekend is here and the top doctors are out with ways to celebrate safely.
From Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health Doctor Kieran Moore:
- Virtual gatherings or events are safest, especially if people in the group are unvaccinated or if their vaccination status is unknown
- Gatherings or events outdoors (100 maximum) are safer than indoors (25 maximum)
- The fewer people who gather, the lower the risk of transmission
If a physical gathering is chosen, don’t forget…
- provide all the necessary supplies, including hand sanitizer, soap and water
- open windows/doors, if possible
- clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces
- ask guests not to attend if they have symptoms, even if they are mild
- make a list of guests attending in case your local public health unit needs it for contact tracing
- wash your hands before and frequently when preparing and serving food
The Medical Officer of Health for the Thunder Bay District mirrors those suggestions.
Doctor Janet DeMille reminds you that COVID-19 can be introduced from another community; whether you’ve visited there or had someone come here. Even though it’s not intention, she wants to remind people to be aware of that and that if they have symptoms even mild ones to stay home.
