Happy that the COVID-19 rapid antigen testing is available, but still looking for more information.
That’s the reaction of the Lakehead Public School Board after the province unveiled Tuesday that testing decisions will be left up to the local health unit, instead of the school board or the province.
Superintendent of Education AJ Keene tells Acadia News that they haven’t received much information on it.
The board plans to meet and discuss processes and steps when it comes to administering the tests and how to follow through with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
The testing is geared to asymptomatic screening for unvaccinated children and students, it is also all voluntary.
It is currently not recommended that vaccinated individuals receive the testing since the the current vaccines are so effective.
The aim is that the school based program will help identify a case before it becomes a breakout.
