The Centennial Botanical Conservatory is on track to receive funding to get some much needed upgrades.
An application was submitted for the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) Enhance Your Community Stream fund which could see the conservatory acquire 50% (or up to $2 million) of the funding needed to help with the improvements.
Manager of Parks & Outdoor Spaces, Cory Halvorsen, told our newsroom they had applied for the funding in the spring. The project includes replacing the greenhouses, building an annex to connect the main building to the greenhouses as well as the renewal of the conservatory itself. The total cost is estimated to be around $7 million.
City council is expected to ratify this request during Monday’s meeting.
