The Nishnawbe Aski Nation have elected Derek Fox as their new Grand Chief.
The final vote count saw Fox receiving 30, and other candidate Bruce Shisheesh recieving 11.
Fox has served as the Deputy Grand Chief for the past six years and focused on Health Policy and Advocacy, Environment, Energy, Education, and Languages.
His father Charles Fox also served as a NAN Grand Chief, and as the Ontario Regional Chief for the Chiefs of Ontario.
The announcement happened during the 39th annual Keewaywin Conference, held in a virtual format because of the pandemic.
Still undecided is who will be elected into the three Deputy Grand Chief positions, eight individuals in the running for those.
