Update 12pm, Wednesday:
Thunder Bay city council is meeting Thursday, April 29th, to discuss options for the multi-use indoor turf facility.
The goal of the meeting is only for information purposes, council will not vote, make any decisions, or have a debate.
One Councillor is eager for the meeting.
Current River representative Andrew Foulds feels the project is important for a sports town, even with a $46-million price tag. “I definitely think that the community could benefit, both in the short and long term, from having an indoor turf facility. In fact, we are at fifteen stakeholders that would use it now, and I think that that would only grow.”
He was disappointed that Council declined to open the project to construction bids, but acknowledges the cost has put many people off the project.
“But I would also suggest that the facility was proposed was multi-use, and was designed to last well into the next 50 years, plus,” he says.
Foulds says he wants to hear what his colleagues and city administration have to say, and will keep an open mind.
