Close to 1,000 elementary students in the Lakehead Public School system are taking classes online.
Maggie Rutter is their online principal and explains the learning curve has been a challenge at times, but it is working well now emphasizing “it’s just a different delivery method.”
“There are examples of really great things that are happening online and I’m just really pleased to see that. I know it’s taking a lot of hard work from our educators but they’re making connections with those kids in really great ways,” says Rutter.
Rutter suggests it may be premature to assess the differences in students who are learning over the internet and those who are taught in class “but we see a lot of great things happening both in class and virtually just in a different delivery method.”
There are about 5,000 public elementary students attending school in person.
