A local gym is ready to welcome its members back as the region enters the next stage of re-opening.
On Friday, gyms and most other businesses will be allowed to open.
Jack Murphy owns Unleashed Fighting Fitness and 24/7 Grit Fitness on Waterloo Street, and says he kept an eye on the previous stages of re-opening.
“We knew they’d give us a couple days notice [before we could re-open], so with us having from now until Friday to kind of finalize stuff, we’ll be ready to roll first thing Friday morning,” he explains.
The gym normally hosts a circuit workout where multiple people travel between different workout areas, but that won’t be the case on Friday.
“We’ll have individual stations that are socially distanced, which allows for sanitation after each member completes their workout,” Murphy says. Cardio equipment at 24/7 Grit Fitness will also be spaced farther apart than usual.
The gym owner says he’s grateful to the members who chose to keep paying their fees, and their landlord who allowed them to stay afloat while they were closed.
“It was very exciting. As it is now, as of Friday, that will be four months where we’ve been basically out of business,” Murphy points out.
