Supporters of the Centennial Botanical Conservatory are raising the alarm that it may be shut down to save the city money.
The group Friends of the Thunder Bay Conservatory claims closing the facility is among the cuts city Administration is putting forward to lower the tax levy.
We’ve asked city officials for comment.
The budget talks resume tomorrow, and Thunder Bay Public Library officials will be at that meeting to protest any possible cuts to their services.
Chief Librarian and CEO John Pateman says on social media that library branches will be closed that day from 4:30 to 6:30 while staff are at City Hall.
Library officials are reacting to last week’s budget meeting where Councils suggested they could make cuts or close the County Park branch. No motions to slash the library’s budget were passed during that discussion.
Both groups are asking their supporters to contact City Councillors to protest any possible budget cuts.
