The planned addition to the Lakehead University Fieldhouse is one step closer to reality with the project going to the tender stage.
LU’s Director of Athletics Tom Warden tells us it’s exciting to know the expansion plans are actually happening.
Warden says a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this stage, from the drawing up of the plans to senior management’s support.
He also credits the students who have “been behind this the whole way.”
The university spokesperson explains if all goes according to plan the work on the new addition should start this time next year.
While the addition is considered an expansion to the Fieldhouse, Warden notes it is essentially a new building.
As well as having new sporting facilities, like a new gym and two weight rooms, it will include a new entrance, amenities for students like a pharmacy, sports medicine clinic and options for health eating.
