Today is the Rotary Christmas Parade.
Parade co-chair Warren Philp tells us the event is the kick off to the Christmas season.
“You look around North America, and Santa Claus parades are everywhere,” Philp notes. “It would be an absolute shame if we didn’t have a daytime Santa Claus parade here for families to participate in.”
The parade gets underway at 10:00 this morning from the Real Canadian Superstore.
The parade is being sponsored this year by Goldcorp.
Philp tells us it takes a lot of financial pressure off of them, allowing them to continue the 28th annual event.
He notes it costs around $10,000 to run the parade every year, adding the company’s support allows Rotary to worry about helping charities rather than about paying for the parade.
