Tackling crime is a top priority for a Thunder Bay mayoral candidate.
Mariann Sawicki believes one way to do that is for people in this city to get to know each other better.
“Each neighbourhood has to come together and meet up, meet your neighbours, have some type of program, and all the councillors-at-large should be there.”
The life-long local resident, who claims she’s always wanted to run for mayor, adds more police need to be walking the streets.
Sawicki adds better tourism as another way to achieve the change she says is needed in Thunder Bay.
She wants to see a boardwalk along the waterfront from the north end of the city to the south.
“In order for it to be cost efficient, each person in the city would have their own name on a plaque, and that would be part of the boardwalk making.”
She says she wants a train that’ll take everyone to the outlying communities, and it would be powered by solar.
She believes greater connection is needed, using Geraldton as an example with its impending gold mine.
Sawicki adds she wants a shuttle service within city limits, something she claims will help industry such as Bombardier.
“That company has been here for years, we’ve built the railway cars, the street cars, the go trains for everyone else, but we don’t have one to show for ourselves.”
