A new piece of public art is coming to the Waterfront District.
Sculpted from a 4,000 pound stone from a local mine, the work is being installed Saturday in front of the Scotia Bank on Red River Road.
Mayor Keith Hobbs says the artwork is not only reflective of the region’s rich landscape, but also of current talks surrounding the mining industry.
“Right now we’re talking about mining, you’re looking at Noront Resources saying they’re going to be ready in a couople of years,” he says. “We have so many riches that are going to shape our community, and I think this is a great place to showcase it.”
Artist John David Hart says the work is inspired by Aboriginal teachings.
Hobbs adds he thinks the City could benefit from more public artworks. (Photo: Caryn Ceolin)
